Gotta Love a Hater
When you lose weight everything changes! It’s not just about the physical health benefits for your body, but for your mind too, and you need to be ready for every eventuality, both good and bad.
Of course you will start to look different, some of our patients actually look at least ‘ten years younger’.
They have more confidence after surgery, wear different, maybe more daring styles, change their hair styles, start to make more of an effort in their appearance which is just amazing to see.
But there are a few downsides to your weight loss transformation that many providers won’t broach.
Here at the NOSC we want to be honest about the good the bad and the ugly, so we asked our post-op patients if they had any thoughts and here are some of them:
The Good
- You’ll be smaller! A lot smaller!
- The way you hold yourself will change; you’ll stand a little taller.
- You’ll notice that you feel happier in yourself.
- People will flirt with you, so own it!
- Your confidence will skyrocket!
- You’ll want to get out there and do new things!
- You’ll notice people are more courteous to you in public (weird but true).
- You’ll lay off the fat jokes because you don’t have to hide there anymore!
- You’ll get your sexy back, oh yes!
- You’ll be fitter and healthier inside and out.
The Bad
- You will always have that one person who tells you it’s a waste of time and money and that in time you’ll have stretched your stomach and be back to square one.
- There will be times when your partner looks at you and almost regrets your choice because of the attention you receive, so make sure you reassure them.
- Your brain will occasionally try to talk you into a huge takeout – Do not give in!
- Someone will always tell you that you’re showing off! It’s not showing off, it’s self-love!
- You’ll freak out if you put on one pound! Don’t panic, minor fluctuation is normal.
- You may notice jealousy from some of your ‘already’ thin friends, you’re not the fat friend anymore, and some may not like it.
- You yourself may become a little judgy towards peoples menu choices, be kind, you were there once too!
- You’ll kick yourself for not having taken the plunge sooner, angry at the wasted years – Love yourself, you did it!
