When you start your journey, looking into weight loss procedures you will come across many new terms of phrase! You will be confused about where to have your procedure and probably have moments of doubt about having surgery at all, but we can promise you one thing, regret at having surgery with us is very rare indeed. So, we want to just share a few of the words or phrases you may come across to save you a google search before you get in touch!
LRD – The Liver Reducing Diet is suggested to most pre-op patients for a period of time before their elected surgeries. Doing exactly what it suggest with a choice of plain and boring menus that will ensure the weight loss process kick starts well and shrinks the liver away from the stomach to make surgery easier for your surgeon.
The Foamies – These occur when you vomit up part or all of your meal. It’s a heavy sticky saliva, a very foamy mix that forces the over-indulgence back out. It only happens if you eat too much, eat too fast, don't chew well enough, or drink fluid whilst eating.
Dumping - Dumping syndrome is a condition in which food, especially food high in sugar or fat, moves from your far smaller stomach into your small bowel way too quickly after you eat your meal. Sometimes called rapid gastric emptying syndrome, it can come on in minutes and have you on that loo for ages!
Hungry Head – This is when you think about food, but your body doesn’t want it, it is literally a mind over matter battle. You really want that curry, so you order it, eat it too fast and probably over-indulge, then spend ages after you have eaten it hanging your head over the toilet thinking ‘why did I eat this?’
But our favourite of all of these new phrases is The Losers Bench – Such a strange thing to say but it’s absolutely true!
